Now that girls flag football is an official CIF sanctioned sport we are seeing more and more high schools building programs for these student athletes. The growth has been remarkable. This season some of our local high schools will now be fielding a JV team in addition to their varsity squad, which is great!
Despite the addition of JV at the local high schools, there will still be MANY more girls with a desire to play than there will be roster spots available — especially for incoming Freshmen. We’re hopeful a Frosh/Soph program will be added to these schools soon — but in the meantime we wanted to create a place where these girls can continue to play. After all, many of these girls got their start with GBCS and we want to see their journey continue, whether it’s with their high school team or otherwise.
This is also a great opportunity for 9th graders who attend high schools that don’t have a team to join the action!
To support the demand (and combat the limited opportunity) for girls in 9th grade we have decided to open Fall registration to all incoming Freshmen girls effective immediately. These girls will play in the 8th/9th grade division (9GU). Our previous Middle School division will now consist of 6th & 7th graders (7GU). 5GU (4th & 5th graders) and 3GU (1st – 3rd graders) will remain the same. The registration deadline for GBCS has been extended to 8/14 to accommodate this new development.
